Sao Miguel is the main island of the archipelago, it’s here that live 50% of the Azoreans (140,000 people). Directly connected to New York JFK, Boston, Toronto, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Lisbon (up to 8 daily flights), it’s the island that we visit first in the Azores.

Sao Miguel is a huge lush garden of 740 km2 where Iceland would have mixed with New Zealand. Wherever one goes, the roads are adorned with massive hydrangeas, exotic plants and impressive ferns. Japanese cedars cover entire valleys, wrapped in Hedychium, a kind of wild ginger from the Himalayas, colonizing the entire island. There are also tea plantations (unique in Europe), fields of bananas, pineapples or even fruit trees such as passion fruit, grown for its passion fruit.

Sao Miguel is also a gourmet island, renowned for its many cheeses, fresh fish and excellent beef. Trekking, canyoning, paragliding, kitsurf, sea trips with dolphins and whales, and also golf (with the 2 most beautiful courses in Portugal), are all activities that make this green island with a mild ocean climate, a real small ecological paradise, far away from the stress and pollution of the major continental cities.
