All around the villa is a magnificent, ten-acre Mediterranean parkland which is a delight to explore; it encompasses palm trees, holm-oaks, myrtles and maritime pine trees. On a lower terrace sits a lovely swimming pool with an impressive vista over the valley and sea. Monte Argentario is the exclusive setting of Villa Maior; once a verdant island, this is now a peninsula linked to the Tuscan mainland via two long strips of sand enclosing the Orbetello lagoon. Everything here is close at hand. Over the years, the harbour towns of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano have become highly fashionable amongst wealthy Italians, yacht and luxury villa owners. Excellent fish restaurants, boutiques and beachfront promenades attract visitors all year round.

The panoramic route (Strada Panoramica) runs along the contour of the region affording striking views over high cliffs, bays, rocky coves and islands. From Porto Santo Stefano you can take ferries to the small, unspoilt island of Giannutri and to Isola del Giglio, renowned for its quaint fishing harbour, its hilltop fortress and unique sea life which makes it a paradise for scuba divers!
