Apulian seaside villa with pool and sea view - Set high on the promontory of Punta Ristola, on the edge of Santa Maria di Leuca, overlooking the sea and a rocky bay, this traditional Apulian villa is ideally located to enjoy the tranquillity of this unspolit area of Puglia as well as explore most of its coastline renowned for the unique colour and transparency of the sea. Surrounded by a large Mediterranean garden of palm and olive trees, this property is built using local Leccese stone and comprises a main villa with communal areas and two trulli; typically flat-roofed, without the cone in Salento and known as Pajara! The palm tree lined promenade of Santa Maria di Leuca begins just 800m away, with the Marina at the other end and its excellent restaurants shops, beach clubs, ice-cream parlours and beach market along the way. Bicycles and mopeds are available to hire by the marina providing a perfect way to explore the area.

Santa Maria di Leuca is the southernmost town in Puglia. High on a hilltop are the impressive lighthouse and Basilica of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae (Land's end), offering the best view of the entire bay and harbour between Punta Ristola and Punta Meliso. From here you can see the waters of the Adriatic and Ionian sea merging, creating a spectacular movement of colour and light. Countless coves and inlets often hiding white sandy beaches or rocky outcrops contribute to Leuca's unique appeal. The best way to reach them is by sea, with private hired boats or boat tours departing every hour from Leuca's pier. The best sandy beaches and crystal clear waters can be found along the stretch of coast between Leuca and Gallipoli, with Marina di Pesculuse being one of the best.

On the Adriatic side, along the scenic route between Leuca and Otranto, the ancient picturesque villages of Santa Cesarea and Castro are well worth a visit, especially the enchanting Grotta Zinzulusa, famous for its colourful stalactites and stalagmites. Otranto is another pearl of the Apulian Adriatic coast, rich in history, pavement cafes and pergola restaurants. Here, throughout summer, folk music festivals and gastronomic fayres (known as sagras) celebrate and promote Puglia's vibrant, traditional lifestyle.
