Many original features of the rural Apulian farmhouse have been skilfully integrated in the modern design such as vaulted ceilings, large fireplaces and even the conic roof of the charming trullo, now transformed into a stunning cutting-edge shower room. From the rooftop terrace there are wonderful views across acres of gently undulating olive groves as far as the eye can see, stretching to the horizon where this calming vista meets with an intense blue sky. This is Salento, an area of Puglia boasting an incredibly rich cultural heritage and unspoilt natural environment encompassing miles of uninterrupted coastline alternating fine sandy beaches, rocky cliffs and spectacular caves dating back to the prehistoric age. Many charming towns and fishing villages are just a few miles away from Masseria del Fico.

Once known as the ‘gateway to the Orient’, Otranto's original charm is undiminished. As you step beyond the main gate of the walled town, take a stroll along the narrow winding lanes lined with tiny crafts shops, pavement cafes and quaint osterie (i.e. typical Italian restaurants serving local specialities). The Aragonese Castle is at the very heart of the town affording one of the best views of Otranto's harbour and marina. A few steps away, the beautiful Cathedral features the most exotic floor mosaic in Puglia. The acclaimed beaches on the Alimini Lakes are just 12 minutes’ drive from Masseria del Fico and provide opportunities for water sports and hiking through the maritime pine woods. On the Adriatic coast you also find Santa Cesarea Terme and Castro Marina, both within 15 miles, with the stunning Grotta Zinzulusa.
