Set in half an acre of terraced, landscaped gardens on a private domaine, and with south-facing sun terraces, this exceptional holiday villa is a real find.

With fabulous views of the azure Mediterranean sea from the pool, the terraces and several rooms, you might not want to stir far from this comfortable, attractive villa. But if you do, you will find one of the French Riviera’s most appealing beaches just a short stroll from your door, accessed via an unpaved lane. A mixture of pebbles and sand, this beach is one of the highlights of the area and boasts some of the clearest waters on the French Riviera. Snorkelling off the rocks here is a delight. Plage de l’Escalet does offer some facilities, including lifeguard, a couple of snack bars and watersports equipment hire, but this does not detract from the feeling you get here of being a long way from the crowds: it is a hidden gem.

Escalet is to be found on the stretch of coastline between Cap Camarat and its lighthouse, and Cap Taillat, a protected nature reserve managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral. If you enjoy walking you may want to make the most of the coastal footpath which you can follow in either direction – perhaps to the very tranquil Plage de la Briande about a mile away on foot. If you wish to select some local wines to take home with you, the well-known Chateau Volterra wine domaine is also nearby. Alternatively you have the boutiques, the excellent market, the fabulous harbour and all the buzz of charming, fashionable St Tropez just 7 miles away from this superb Escalet Beach Villa South of France.
