Chateau Mariah, Loire Valley, Normandy, France Vacation Rental
The Chateau Mariah was built upon the ruins of a medieval castle and was the seat of the seigneurs of Courtomer since the 11th century. The current Chateau was completed in 1789 on the eve of the French Revolution for Count Antoine de Saint-Simon, Marquis de Courtomer. This historically significant Chateau is listed on the National Register of Historic Monuments.
A couple of hours’ drive west of Paris (accessible also by train) and east of the Normany coast, the chateau is located on an old Roman road leading through Normandy en route to the English Channel.
During the “Ancien Regime” – before the French Revolution — the chateau and its estate were completely self-sufficient. Chateau Mariah is one of the rare estates where many of its old buildings still remain intact. Dating from those almost-forgotten days…there is a glacière, for making and keeping ice, the spring house, still filled with clear water, where chateau laundry was washed, the Orangerie, two little chapels, stables where racehorses were bred, and many farm buildings. There is even an exceptional 17th-century Protestant chapel.
Situated on 300 acres of private park, woodlands, pasture and fields, the property offers a little something for everyone. Country pursuits abound, but yet a short bike ride or walk away is the Village of Courtomer where you can enjoy a coffee, cider or shop the open-air fresh market.
The entire structure of the 17,500 square foot residence has gone through extensive renovations since 2005 retaining the charm and style of France’s elegant past. The 18th century architectural and decorative details have been preserved while at the same time modern conveniences and comforts have been introduced.
Local activities and nearby towns provide cultural and recreational fun. Farther afield, you are only two hours from the D-day Beaches, Mont Saint-Michel, the Chateaux of the Loire, Paris and many other unique monuments of France’s fascinating history and culture.
The Chateau can be enjoyed as a self-catered venue or we can organise full-service support for guests who are looking for an increased level of attention during their stay. Additional services, which need to be pre-booked, can include on-site concierge, housekeeping, catering or private chef, and special event management for celebrations such weddings and family gatherings. We also offer tailor made packages for conferences and meetings. No customer requirement is too big or too small so don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your needs.
